About us

Thyra Imaging is a MedTech spin-off from the Medical University of Vienna, founded in 2026 with the goal of translating advanced imaging technology into real-world applications. Originally developed for astronomical telescopes, AO has been advanced towards clinical maturity at the Medical University of Vienna and is used in combination with OCT to enable a new level of resolution in retinal imaging. By integrating this technology with AI-driven analysis, Thyra Imaging enables new biomarkers and applications in research, drug development, and clinical practice.

Proposal

We develop an integrated platform combining advanced retinal imaging hardware with AI-driven software for scalable data acquisition and analysis.

Value

Our technology enables reliable access to cellular-level retinal information, supporting more precise disease characterization and longitudinal monitoring.

Applications

The retina provides a unique window into the brain. Our platform enables applications beyond ophthalmology, including insights into neurological diseases.

News

Elisabeth Brunner, Andreas Pollreisz and Michael Pircher are MedUni Vienna's Inventors of the Year 2025. They were honoured for inventing a new contrast mechanism for optical coherence tomography (OCT) and their developments in the field of next-generation high-resolution OCT imaging of the human retina. This technology enables non-invasive, in vivo imaging of individual cells and microstructures within the retina.
